How to develop eloquence in speaking for gifted students
ABSTRACT
Developing eloquence in speaking is a pivotal skill for gifted students, whose advanced
cognitive abilities often necessitate enhanced verbal communication capabilities. This
study aims to identify and analyze effective strategies to cultivate eloquence among
these students, focusing on three primary methods: expanding vocabulary through
IELTS speaking samples, engaging in movie dubbing, and practicing monologues. By
integrating these approaches, the study addresses both the linguistic and expressive
components of eloquence, providing a comprehensive framework for enhancing verbal
proficiency.
Expanding vocabulary through IELTS speaking samples exposes students to a variety
of topics and contexts, fostering lexical diversity and improving their ability to articulate
complex ideas clearly and accurately. Engaging in movie dubbing offers an immersive
and
dynamic
method
for
refining
pronunciation,
intonation,
and
emotional
expressiveness by mimicking speech patterns and emotions of characters. Monologue
practice, on the other hand, emphasizes self-expression and rhetorical skill, encouraging
students to construct and deliver compelling narratives that captivate and persuade their
audience.
The study's findings highlight the effectiveness of these methods in developing
eloquence, demonstrating significant improvements in students' fluency, coherence, and
persuasive abilities. Additionally, it underscores the importance of tailored instructional
strategies that cater to the unique needs of gifted students, ensuring they achieve their
full potential in both academic and competitive settings. Ultimately, this research
contributes to the broader discourse on educational practices for gifted students,
offering practical insights and evidence-based recommendations for educators aiming
to enhance verbal communication skills. By fostering eloquence, the study prepares
gifted students for success in various spheres, including national and international
English contests and future professional endeavors.

CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
Eloquence in speaking is a critical skill that enhances academic and professional
success, particularly for gifted students whose intellectual capabilities often surpass
their verbal communication skills. Developing eloquence is essential as it enables these
students to articulate complex ideas clearly, engage in meaningful discourse, and assert
their viewpoints persuasively. This study aims to explore effective strategies for
cultivating eloquence among gifted students, recognizing the unique challenges and
opportunities inherent in their advanced cognitive abilities.
Gifted students frequently exhibit high levels of creativity, analytical thinking, and
problem-solving skills; however, their potential is often undermined by inadequate
communication skills. The disparity between their intellectual acuity and verbal
expression can lead to frustration and underachievement. Consequently, addressing this
gap is paramount to unlocking their full potential. Eloquence in speaking not only
empowers gifted students to share their insights confidently but also fosters their ability
to influence, inspire, and lead.
Additionally, given that gifted students often participate in national English contests
(NEC) and other international English tests such as IELTS, developing eloquence in
speaking can directly contribute to their preparation for these assessments. The speaking
components of these exams, which account for a significant portion of the overall score,
require students to demonstrate clear and effective communication skills. Therefore,
enhancing eloquence in speaking not only supports their academic growth but also
prepares them for competitive examinations that are critical for their educational
advancement.
This study is grounded in the premise that eloquence is not an innate trait but a skill that
can be developed through targeted interventions. It will investigate various pedagogical
approaches, including providing vocabulary on various topics to help students self-
study; using movies requiring students to dub; and supporting students in making short
presentations. By analyzing the efficacy of these methods, the research seeks to identify
best practices that educators can implement to enhance verbal proficiency among gifted
students.
Moreover, the study will contribute to the broader discourse on educational equity,
ensuring that gifted students receive the necessary support to thrive in all dimensions of
their academic journey. Ultimately, fostering eloquence in speaking will equip gifted
students
with

communication
skills
essential
for

CHAPTER 2. LITERATURE REVIEW
This chapter provides a comprehensive review of the existing literature on developing
eloquence in speaking for gifted students. It begins with a detailed analysis of speaking
skills and eloquence, examining their definitions and components. The chapter also
explores the unique needs of gifted students and the pedagogical approaches that can
effectively enhance their verbal proficiency.
2.1. Understanding Speaking Skills
Speaking skills are a fundamental aspect of language proficiency, encompassing a range
of abilities that enable individuals to communicate effectively. According to Richards
(2008), speaking skills include not only the production of sounds and words but also
the ability to construct coherent sentences, use appropriate vocabulary, and engage in
meaningful interactions. Speaking involves both fluency, the ability to speak smoothly
and without hesitation, and accuracy, the correctness of grammar and pronunciation.
Brown (2001) emphasizes the importance of pragmatic competence in speaking, which
refers to the ability to use language appropriately in various social contexts. This
includes understanding and employing different registers, tones, and styles of speaking
depending on the audience and purpose. Effective speaking also requires strategic
competence, the ability to use communication strategies to overcome potential barriers
and misunderstandings.
2.2. Defining Eloquence
Eloquence, often considered an advanced form of speaking skill, is characterized by the
ability to speak persuasively, expressively, and with a high degree of fluency. Cicero,
the ancient Roman orator, defined eloquence as "the art of speaking in such a way as to
achieve the intended effect" (Cicero, as cited in Kennedy, 1994). Eloquence involves
not only the technical aspects of speaking but also the ability to engage and move an
audience through the use of rhetoric and stylistic devices.
Modern definitions of eloquence emphasize its multifaceted nature. According to
Crystal (2010), eloquence encompasses clarity, conciseness, coherence, and rhetorical
skill. It involves the effective use of language to convey complex ideas in an accessible
manner, to persuade or inspire an audience, and to create a memorable and impactful
speech. Eloquence is thus a synthesis of linguistic proficiency and expressive capability.
2.3. The Unique Needs of Gifted Students
Gifted
students,
defined
as
those
who
exhibit
exceptional
levels
of
aptitude
or
competence in one or more domains (National Association for Gifted Children, 2010),
often possess advanced cognitive abilities that can surpass their verbal communication
skills. Research by Sternberg and Davidson (2005) suggests that gifted students may
face unique challenges in developing eloquence, such as perfectionism, asynchronous
development, and heightened sensitivity to criticism.
These students often require specialized instructional strategies to bridge the gap
between their intellectual abilities and their speaking skills. VanTassel-Baska (2003)
notes that gifted students benefit from curricula that are both accelerated and enriched,
providing
opportunities
for
deeper
exploration
of
language
and
communication.
Interventions aimed at developing eloquence should therefore be tailored to their
advanced learning needs and potential for high achievement.
2.4. Pedagogical Approaches to Developing Eloquence
Various pedagogical approaches have been proposed to enhance eloquence in speaking
among gifted students. Rhetorical training, which focuses on the art of persuasion and
effective communication, is one such approach. Aristotle's "Rhetoric" outlines key
principles of rhetoric, including ethos (credibility), pathos (emotional appeal), and logos
(logical argument), which remain relevant in modern education (Aristotle, as cited in
Kennedy, 1994).
Debate participation is another effective method for developing eloquence. Kennedy
(2007)
highlights
that
debating
provides
students
with
opportunities
to
practice
constructing and presenting arguments, responding to counterarguments, and thinking
critically under pressure. This helps to refine both their fluency and their ability to
articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
The integration of technology-enhanced learning tools, such as speech analysis software
and virtual reality simulations, offers innovative ways to develop speaking skills.
Research by Warschauer and Healey (1998) indicates that technology can provide
immediate feedback on pronunciation, grammar, and delivery, allowing students to
practice and improve their speaking skills in a supportive environment.
2.5. Implications for Educational Practice
The literature underscores the importance of developing eloquence in speaking for
gifted students, not only for their academic success but also for their participation in
national and international English contests such as the National English Contest (NEC)
and IELTS. As highlighted by Gardner (1993), multiple intelligences theory supports
the
notion
that
linguistic
intelligence
is
critical
for
personal
and
professional
development.
Educators must therefore implement targeted interventions that address the unique
needs of gifted students. These interventions should combine traditional rhetorical
training, active engagement in debate, and the use of advanced technological tools to
create a comprehensive and supportive learning environment. By fostering eloquence
in speaking, educators can help gifted students achieve their full potential and excel in
various competitive and academic contexts.

CHAPTER 3. RECOMMENDATIONS AND APPLICATIONS
3.1. Description of the case before applying the initiative:
Currently, English-speaking skills are often the greatest fear and weakness of many
students. Some major difficulties hindering students' English communication abilities
include:
1.
Lesson topics are not close and are boring: Some lesson topics do not reflect
real life and do not stimulate students' interest.
2.
Activities are not suitable for students' levels: Some activities may be too
difficult or too easy for students' levels, causing loss of interest and confidence
in communication.
3.
Habit of writing instead of speaking: Students often have the habit of writing
on paper instead of practicing verbal communication, reducing opportunities to
practice speaking skills.
4.
Fear of making mistakes while speaking: Fear of pronouncing or speaking
incorrectly
is
a
major
concern
that
makes
students
feel
unconfident
in
communication.
5.
Limited speaking practice time: Each lesson usually has only one speaking
session, and the large number of students in the class reduces the opportunity for
practice and receiving individual feedback from the teacher.
6.
Prioritizing exams over practical communication: At the high school level,
English is often seen as a main subject in the high school graduation exam,
leading to prioritizing exam preparation over practical communication.
Given these issues, finding solutions to develop eloquence in speaking for gifted
students is very necessary. Facing the disadvantages of using traditional methods such
as introducing new topics, requiring students to practice, and teachers providing
feedback. Students do not retain knowledge for a long time, their application ability is
not
flexible,
and
the
improvement
and
development
of
speaking
skills
are
not
significant. Teachers and students are quite passive in speaking lessons. Assigning tasks
to provide knowledge input for students to research and explore at home; practicing and
performing speaking activities at home make students first confident and autonomous,
having more time to practice speaking. Along with that, the data helping students
practice is the films chosen by the students themselves, which will make them more
interested and proactive in acquiring knowledge.
At the same time, we are also trying to combine other factors such as individual
feedback from teachers, group activities, and applying more practical and engaging
topics into the learning process. We hope that by applying the three solutions in this
initiative, including: (1) expanding vocabulary, (2) dubbing films, (3) monologue
activities, we will be able to improve the efficiency of training speaking skills for
students and create a positive and creative learning environment.
The goal of this initiative is to introduce some new and effective methods to help
teachers and students solve the difficulties in improving speaking and presentation
skills. The creativity is shown through several points:
1.
Purpose transformation:
Instead of providing knowledge directly in class and then immediately
practicing, teachers provide learning materials for students to self-study
and create individual products within 1-2 weeks before the products are
evaluated.
Instead of just using films and videos to create interest at the beginning
of each lesson, teachers use films as a learning resource and model,
helping students both enjoy learning and practice fluent and natural
speaking skills.
2.
Diverse content:
Teachers do not just present a single topic but 10 topics following 10 units
in the 10th-grade textbook. This helps diversify the content and create
richness in the learning process.
Students can choose the content of films that are suitable for their age and
interests to dub.
3.
Time and product management: Teachers assign tasks and manage students'
self-study and homework weekly, ensuring that each student must submit a
product. Extending the time throughout the school year helps create conditions
for developing and improving students' speaking skills.
4.
Diverse evaluation: Not only teachers give feedback and evaluation, but
students also have the opportunity to evaluate each other. This helps diversify
evaluation forms and create multidimensional evaluation criteria.
This initiative also emphasizes the role of input information and self-exploration in
teaching and learning, affirming the importance of motivating students in the learning
process. We hope that through the application of the methods stated in the initiative, the
eloquence in speaking for gifted students will be enhanced.
3.2. Description of recommendations and applications
3.2.1. Expanding vocabulary: Supplementing Diverse Vocabulary
A rich and diverse vocabulary is essential for effective verbal communication, helping
individuals express themselves accurately, fluently, and subtly. For talented students
who naturally excel in language learning and have a desire to explore knowledge,
expanding their vocabulary is not only an interesting hobby but also a strategic
investment in their fluency in speaking. Through purposeful vocabulary learning
strategies such as reading books, vocabulary games, and academic tools like learning
aids, talented individuals can systematically expand their vocabulary and usage. Studies
have consistently shown a positive correlation between vocabulary size and verbal
expression ability, with those possessing larger vocabularies demonstrating greater
language fluency and communication competence. Through teaching practice, I found
that one of the biggest difficulties for specialized English students is not grammar,
pronunciation, or intonation, but the lack of a rich and advanced vocabulary to be highly
appreciated. Therefore, providing vocabulary, logical expression methods for students
is very important. In other words, I want to emphasize the importance of providing
talented students with opportunities to expand their vocabulary through purposeful and
engaging activities to nurture a passion for language learning.
I choose to provide vocabulary and expression methods for students proactively and
selectively. Specifically, for each topic (according to the textbook Global success 10),
teachers will perform the following steps:
Prepare questions and answers for questions following the model of the 3 parts
of the IELTS Speaking test.
Distribute questions and answers to students.
Require students to prepare their responses at home according to the provided
questions. Students can memorize or use the logic and vocabulary of the
suggested answers provided by the teacher.
After one week, students are randomly tested orally.
Teachers evaluate students' presentations and grade them directly. Grading

QUESTION 1
One significant environmental problem that has occurred in my country is air pollution, primarily
caused by vehicle emissions, industrial activities, and the burning of fossil fuels. This issue has had
a profound impact on our nation, affecting both public health and the environment. The polluted air
has led to respiratory problems among the population, especially vulnerable groups like children and
the elderly. Additionally, it has contributed to smog formation, reduced visibility, and harmed
wildlife and vegetation.
To address this pressing concern, several steps have been taken. Government initiatives have
included implementing stricter emission standards for vehicles, promoting the
use of public
transportation, and investing in renewable energy sources. Additionally, awareness campaigns have
been launched to educate the public about the importance of reducing individual carbon footprints
through measures such as carpooling and conserving energy.
I believe solving this problem is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it directly impacts the health and
well-being of citizens, with air pollution being linked to respiratory diseases and other health issues.
Secondly, it affects the quality of life in urban areas, diminishing the attractiveness of our cities as
places to live, work, and visit. Furthermore, addressing air pollution aligns with global efforts to
combat climate change, as reducing greenhouse gas emissions is essential for preserving the planet
for future generations. In essence, tackling air pollution is not just a matter of environmental
conservation but also a fundamental aspect of safeguarding public health and promoting sustainable

English can be learned through experiences with sound and images. Specifically,
vocabulary and expressions used in films are very close to real-life situations. The
diverse genres of films cater to students' interests, thereby stimulating their experience
and improving their skills. Additionally, learning English through films helps students
become familiar with various English accents from different regions. Furthermore, this
activity also helps students gain an understanding of the customs, habits, and daily
routines of native speakers.
In fields such as politics, business, and art, talented individuals can learn valuable
lessons from the speaking styles and techniques of exemplary communicators. Art

Confidence is a crucial factor in effective verbal communication, enabling individuals
to speak decisively, impress audiences, and convey reliability and credibility. For
Page 26 of 32
talented students who may face high expectations and pressure to succeed, nurturing
confidence in communication can be a transformative process, empowering them to
authentically and decisively express themselves. Through a combination of self-
affirmation
exercises,
positive

techniques,
and
exposure
therapies,
talented individuals can overcome performance anxiety and develop the necessary
confidence to excel in verbal communication. Studies consistently underscore the
importance of confidence in speaking skills, with individuals exhibiting high levels of
confidence often demonstrating fluency, persuasiveness, and audience appeal.
Steps to proceed:
1.
Introduction to the monologue overview.
Topic: Some people say that co-education schools are better than single-sex schools. Do you
agree or disagree with this opinion?
Answer 1:
In today's rapidly evolving educational landscape, the choice of an optimal educational
environment for a child’s development remains a topic of significant debate. While a number
of people fervently advocate sending children to institutions where all genders learn together,
many others are in favour of single-sex schools. From my perspective, co-educational
schools offer a plethora of advantages that single-sex schools cannot match.
In the first place, co-educational schools provide students with essential preparation for the
real world. As a matter of fact, individuals in daily life invariably interact with a diverse
range of people, irrespective of gender. Co-educational settings, by mirroring this diversity,
give students invaluable opportunities to develop effective communication and interpersonal
skills across genders. In such environments, students learn to foster a sense of normalcy in
dealing with the opposite gender, an indispensable skill in both professional and personal
spheres. On the other hand, students in single-sex institutions are primarily exposed to peers
of their own gender, potentially hindering their ability to adeptly navigate mixed-gender
social settings later in life.
In the second place, co-education plays a pivotal role in promoting gender equality. When
boys and girls are educated together, they learn to view and respect each other as equals. This
environment inherently challenges ingrained gender stereotypes and encourages students to
judge their peers based on their abilities, rather than their gender. Furthermore, co-
educational systems facilitate opportunities for both genders to collaborate, enhancing
mutual understanding and providing a balanced perspective on gender roles. In contrast,
single-sex education often denies students the chance to understand and appreciate the
differences and similarities between genders. This isolation can inadvertently perpetuate
gender stereotypes, fostering a lack of understanding and empathy towards the opposite
gender.
Advocates of single-sex schooling often argue that these institutions can tailor their curricula
to suit the perceived preferences and strengths of each gender, ostensibly optimizing the
learning
experience.
However,
this
approach
can
inadvertently
strip
the
educational
environment of its diversity in pedagogical approaches and content. By overly focusing on
gender-specific preferences, the curriculum risks becoming biased and perpetuating gender
stereotypes, rather than challenging them. Such an environment may inadvertently develop
a
narrow
worldview,
pigeonholing
students
into
traditional
gender
roles
rather
than
encouraging exploration and broad-mindedness. Consequently, the supposed advantages of
a gender-tailored curriculum could be counterproductive.
In
conclusion,
co-educational
schools
offer
a
more
holistic
and
realistic
educational
experience compared to single-sex schools. By preparing students for the real world,
promoting
gender
equality,
and
challenging
traditional
gender
roles,
co-educational
institutions play a crucial role in the development of well-rounded, empathetic, and socially
adept individuals.

Answer 2:
Hello everyone, have you ever stopped to think about how the type of school you
attended shaped your view of the world? It's a pretty intriguing question, right? Today, let's
dive into a debate that's been stirring up conversations everywhere: co-ed versus single-sex
schools. Which one really sets the stage for success in the real world? For me, co-ed
education is the answer.
First of all, imagine stepping into a classroom where life's diversity is mirrored right in front
of you. Co-ed schools bring this to life, blending boys and girls in one learning environment.
But what does this mix mean for developing real-world skills? It's about more than just
academics; it's learning to communicate, collaborate, and coexist with everyone, irrespective
of gender. Now, that sounds like a solid preparation for the outside world!
And there’s more to consider! How do co-ed environments impact our views on gender
equality? By learning and growing together, boys and girls in co-ed schools are positioned
to see each other as equals from a young age. This setup naturally challenges stereotypes and
builds a foundation of mutual respect. But could single-sex schools offer a different
advantage that we're overlooking?
Some argue that single-sex education allows for a tailored approach, potentially optimizing
learning by catering to the specific needs of each gender. Yet, could this specialization
inadvertently reinforce traditional gender roles, limiting students' perspectives on what they
can achieve?
So, as we wrap up, think about this: education isn't just about filling our heads with
knowledge. It's about preparing us for life's broader challenges—navigating complex social
landscapes, breaking down barriers, and building bridges of understanding. In this light, co-
ed schools seem to offer a more holistic preparation for the real world. But, what's your take?
Could the focused environment of single-sex schools have merits we shouldn't dismiss too
quickly?
The debate is open, and there's no one-size-fits-all answer. What matters most is how we
leverage
our
educational experiences
to
foster
a
more
inclusive,
understanding,
and
collaborative society.
What are the differences between the two answers?
Answer 2:
Tone: more casual and inviting: employing direct questions to the audience to engage them
and make the content feel more interactive and less lecture-like.
Language: simpler and more colloquial: avoiding complex sentence structures and academic
jargon in favor of straightforward expressions and relatable phrases.
Engagement: rhetorical questions to the audience => encourages listeners to think actively
about their own opinions and experiences related to the topic => fostering a two-way
dialogue.
Introduction and Conclusion: more attention-grabbing and thought-provoking: using vivid
imagery and scenarios to draw listeners in and leave them with something to ponder, rather
than simply summarizing the arguments made.
Structure: maintaining a logical flow + less rigid in structure => more flexibility in how
ideas are presented and discussed.
Personalization: first-person plural pronouns like "we" and "our," making the discussion
feel more inclusive and personal, as if the speaker and the audience are exploring the topic
together.
2.
Various methods of constructing a monologue.
Ways to lead in:
Introducing a topic in an engaging way is crucial for capturing and maintaining your
audience's attention from the get-go. Here are several strategies to make your topic
introduction more captivating:
Topic: Single-sex schools vs. Co-educational schools
Page 28 of 32
1. Start with a Question: Pose an intriguing question to your audience. This can be
rhetorical or one that prompts them to think about their own experiences or opinions.
Questions immediately engage the listener's curiosity and invite them to ponder the subject
matter alongside you.
"Have you ever wondered why single-sex schools are so few and far between in most nations
nowadays? It is curious to think how popular they used to be so popular just a few decades
ago with numerous schools for boys or girls only. Does that go to show that co-ed schools
have proved to be far superior to single-sex counterparts in educating the young generation?
Well, for me, the answer seems to be yes, they are an absolutely better option!”
2. Tell a Story: Begin with a short, relevant story or anecdote. People are naturally drawn to
narratives, and a compelling story related to your topic can create an emotional connection,
making the audience more invested in what comes next.
“My grandmother always proudly tells me about her school year. She was so fortunate to be
among the few girls in those days that were allowed to attend school. She also tells me that
schools in her time were very different. She was sent to a single-sex school, where she studied
with only female friends, and didn’t have much experience with boys until she went to
college. Nowadays, single-sex schools have almost become something of that past, giving
place to co-ed schools. For me, this change is down to the various advantages on the part of
co-ed schools.”
3. Use a Startling Statistic or Fact: Share a surprising or little-known fact or statistic that
highlights the significance of your topic. This can shock or intrigue your audience, prompting
them to want to learn more about the subject.
"Did you know that only about 10% of students in the United States attend single-sex schools.
Yet, the debate on their effectiveness compared to co-ed schools remains as heated as ever?
Let's delve into what makes this topic so controversial."
4. Quote Someone: Start with a powerful or thought-provoking quote from a well-known
figure. Choose a quote that is directly relevant to your topic and can set the tone for the rest
of your speech.
"Nelson Mandela once said, 'Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to
change the world.' Today, people still keep debating which type of school might better shape
that weapon: co-ed or single-sex. For me, …"
5. Visual Imagery: Paint a vivid picture with your words by describing a scenario that your
audience can visualize. This technique can be particularly effective if the scenario is relatable
or evokes strong emotions, drawing your listeners into the world of your topic.
"Picture a classroom where every seat is filled with students from diverse backgrounds,
learning and growing together, irrespective of gender. Now, contrast that with a room where
all faces are the same gender. Each of these classrooms can exert profound impacts on
children’s overall development. Though opinions may differ greatly which one is better, I
believe that …"
6. Use Humor: If appropriate, starting with a light-hearted joke or amusing anecdote related
to your topic can warm up the audience and make them more receptive to your message.
“Co-ed versus single-sex schools: the ultimate showdown. It's like choosing between
chocolate and vanilla ice cream at a buffet where you're not allowed to sample both. Today,
we're going to dive into what makes each flavor so appealing—or not.”
7.
State
the
Importance:
Clearly articulate
why the topic
matters.
If the
audience
understands the significance of the subject matter right from the start, they're more likely to
stay engaged throughout your speech.
"In a rapidly evolving society, the debate between co-ed and single-sex education is more
than
just
academic;
it's
about
preparing
our
future
leaders,
thinkers,
and
citizens.
Understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each can guide us toward a more inclusive
and effective educational system."
3. How to deliver a speech in an interesting way?
Delivering a speech in an interesting way involves a mix of techniques and practices aimed
at engaging your audience, making your message memorable, and ensuring that your delivery
is dynamic and impactful. Here are some key tips to help you deliver an interesting speech:
1. Start Strong: Begin with a powerful opening to grab attention. This could be a startling
statement, a compelling story, a question, or a relevant quote.
2. Use Stories and Examples: Stories and personal anecdotes make your speech more
engaging and relatable. They help illustrate your points in a memorable way.
3. Vary Your Voice: Use variations in pitch, pace, and volume to keep your delivery
dynamic. Monotone speeches can be dull, so changing your vocal delivery helps maintain
interest.
4. Use Pauses Effectively: Strategic pauses can emphasize points, give your audience time
to absorb information, and create a rhythm to your speech.
5. Engage with Your Audience: Ask rhetorical questions, invite direct questions, or include
interactive elements in your speech to create a two-way dialogue and keep your audience
engaged.
6. Use Humor Wisely: Appropriately timed humor can make your speech more enjoyable
and memorable. Be mindful of your audience and the context to ensure your humor is well-
received.
7. Practice and Prepare: Know your material well so you can deliver it confidently. Practice
your speech multiple times, and consider rehearsing in front of friends or a mirror to refine
your delivery.
8. Be Passionate and Enthusiastic: Your enthusiasm for the topic can be contagious. If you
show genuine passion and energy in your delivery, your audience is more likely to be
engaged.
9. Use Emotional Expressions: Speak with appropriate emotions of each part of your
speech.
10. Close with Impact: End your speech with a strong conclusion that reinforces your main
points. A memorable closing can leave a lasting impression on your audience.

CHAPTER 4. CONCLUSION
The development of eloquence in speaking for gifted students is an essential component
of their academic and personal growth. This study has explored three effective methods
to enhance their speaking skills: expanding vocabulary through IELTS speaking
samples, engaging in movie dubbing, and practicing monologues. Each of these
approaches
offers
unique
benefits
that
collectively
contribute
to
the
holistic
development of eloquence.
Expanding vocabulary by providing speaking samples from IELTS tests helps gifted
students familiarize themselves with a wide range of topics and contexts. This exposure
not only broadens their lexical repertoire but also enhances their ability to articulate
thoughts with precision and nuance. The structured format of IELTS speaking tasks
encourages students to organize their ideas coherently and express them confidently,
laying a solid foundation for eloquence.
Movie dubbing offers a dynamic and engaging way to improve speaking skills. By
mimicking the speech patterns, intonations, and emotions of characters, students can
refine their pronunciation, intonation, and emotional expressiveness. This method also
fosters a deeper understanding of the nuances of spoken language, enabling students to
convey meaning more effectively. Dubbing provides an immersive learning experience
that combines entertainment with skill development, making it particularly appealing to
gifted students.
Monologue practice, on the other hand, allows students to delve into the art of solo
speech. Crafting and delivering monologues help students develop a strong sense of
self-expression and rhetorical skill. This practice encourages them to explore their
creativity, construct compelling narratives, and engage their audience through effective
use of language and delivery techniques. Monologue practice builds confidence and
enhances the students' ability to present their ideas persuasively in various settings.
Collectively, these methods offer a comprehensive approach to developing eloquence
